When And How To Prune Hibiscus?
i have a young hibiscus. it is basically one stock. it had its last bloom about 2 weeks ago and i do not see any small buds forming. i was thinking of pruning the hibiscus.
is this a good time to prune , or do i need to wait til spring? where should i prune the plant ( how much should i prune off?) and also, if i prune, how long will it take to have new blooms?
thank you !
I prune mine in the fall–but you can prune either in spring or fall. Prune any little branches that may be crossing over any other branch. Where you have buds where the new branches will form, you will want those to go to the outside. Otherwise your new branches will head to the inside. And did you know that you can take any branches you prune and cut them into about 6″ to 8″ sticks and plant the bottom part of each cutting and you can propagate new plants. Hibiscus is one of the easiest plants to propagate. Good luck. Oh yes, they’ll bloom at the same flowering period as they always do.
