Most of us use the Internet to access tips and tricks for proper time management. While others purchase self-help books available in bookshops. Even if these tips are reliable, most of them are usually universal. Hence, the tips are too general and there is no guarantee that they will work for you.

You can learn how to properly manage your time through experience. Online tips and books may add up to your knowledge on how to properly manage time. However, nothing can replace hands-on experience. Here are a few instances where you can learn how to properly manage your time through experience.

Your Parents or Guardians are Away

When parents leave their kids at home for a certain time period, they learn to be more responsible in a shorter period of time. When left at home with responsibilities like washing the dishes, cleaning the house, and doing laundry will force them to work out the chores first. It also teaches them how to prioritize work over other less important activities, such as playing outside. Only when they have accomplished the tasks assigned to them are they allowed to play.

This kind of training also encourages the kids to experiment on ways to maximize their own time.

Your kids aren’t the only one that will benefit from this kind of training. When kids become responsible enough with their own time in finishing up their chores, parents also save a lot of time. Kids can now lend their hand when it comes to doing chores at home, instead of you having to do it all.

Planning Big Events

Event Planning also gives a lot of good experience for you when it comes to managing your time well. Planning events need a lot of long term and short term plans that you can apply later on in your personal life. When planning an event, you have a lot of activities to consider and things to prepare. Therefore, you need to list down the activities that you must attend to for the day.

Having 2 commitments at the Same Day

Dividing your time to fulfill 2 commitments at the same day is a hard feat. It usually needs experience for you to masterfully do it. When you have 2 commitments a day, set up time tables and “to do” list for your activities on that day.

Having 2 commitments also teaches you to be versatile (with regards to schedule) on different situations. Sometimes you might need to give more time to appointments, so you have to create schedules that would be versatile enough to give time to Appointment A without jeopardizing Appointment B.

Entering in a Relationship

Entering into a relationship may be the best learning experience for you to properly manage your time. Relationships are all about ?long term’ commitments. Meaning, you have to properly allocate your time within a day, in such a way that there is a time relegated to doing your usual activities and there is also a time for your significant other.

You have to adjust your time or schedule so that you will not undermine your partner or your personal life. This is not an easy task to do specially because there are a lot of variable things you have to consider when in a relationship. It makes you aware of all these variables and teaches you to learn how to compensate so you can maximize the limited time you have.

As the saying goes, it is through experience that we can learn from our mistakes and improve on them. Experience will teach you how to properly manage your time even if you won’t read a single book or a tip over the internet.

The true measure of success may be how much time you spend doing exactly what you want. Never mind the money, if you already have enough. How much of your time is spent doing that which either aggravates you or wastes your time? Even the very rich can find themselves caught up in stressful situations that cry out for a solution. Most of the time, eliminating them altogether is the best strategy.

The problem is one of habits. If you’ve always done things a certain way, you may be creating a problem that can be solved by a change in thinking, followed by a change in acting. Are you checking your email more than 5 times a day? More than 50? Why? Consider checking email twice a day, at the most. If you warn people that you only check email twice a day, you may find that those who depend on you to respond immediately change how they behave towards you.

Another consideration is negative influences. You may have a majority of customers that are a pleasure to deal with, and a few that are nasty, negative and chew up most of your time. Consider firing the troublemakers. That will make room for more good customers and make sure your attitude isn’t negatively affected by dealing with people who delight in making you miserable.

Cut yourself off from the “news”. Television and newspapers seldom serve up news that is actionable by you. When was the last time a public official or government agency contacted you regarding your take on the latest news bulletin? For that matter, when was the last time you missed something important in life that you didn’t hear about from a friend or neighbor? If the world is about to blow up, I guarantee you’ll find out about it without resorting to the media. Eliminate daily news briefings. You don’t need the negative influence in your life.

Try outsourcing your chores. If you’ve automated your business so you can spend more time on yard work, housecleaning or maintenance, stop and think! How much will it cost you to pay someone to mop your floors, mow your lawn and clean your rain gutters? Unless you are a seasoned professional at such labor, you’ll probably get a better result than if you keep doing it yourself. Even if you are a seasoned professional at such labor, isn’t the reason you got into IM precisely to free yourself from daily drudgery?

Learn how to shut your mind tightly against negative thinking and the negative influence of other people. You can begin by practicing meditation, where you stop thinking about your thoughts and simply remain quiet, in your mind. With practice, you’ll find it’s easy and effortless to break a train of thought you do not wish to encourage. You’ll also find it beneficial to cut out all the people who want to dump their problems on you. You don’t have to be nasty or rude. Just stop allowing them to invade your life with the things that they, themselves, are unwilling to deal with. It is not your duty to hear other people whine about their life.

There are troubles and duties we all must deal with. I’m not suggesting you drop your responsibilities and slack off on what you know you must do. Just take the time to question all of your assumptions regarding duty and responsibility. Figure out how much of your life is spent doing things that you really don’t have to be doing. Get rid of all the old, bad habits that cause unnecessary aggravation and eliminate them from your life.

We all have to find what works best for our individuality, since each and every one of us is different. Accepting our own actions, behaviors and thoughts is not the beginning of learning who we really are. Rather, it is an attribute, which follows a connection between our past and our futures. You heard the nonsense “never look back?” Well, the people that are telling you this are in a big office basing their ideas, theories and guesses on experiences and lifetimes. Hypocrites need to pluck the needle from their own eyes and quite advising others, since obviously the plans they make rarely work. This acceptance starts with the basics in managing our time. The basics in time management are setting up goals and plans that are obtainable. When we set goals for our selves we must ask?”Is this goal obtainable. Do I have the ability to achieve this goal? How do I plan to make this goal successful? Asking questions then is one basic element of diverting a time management scheme that works smoothly. Asking for help is another basic element in time management that leads to success. Success is the greatest reward that life has to offer us.

No one knows it all, so sometimes we have to ask for help. When you are asking questions, you are letting others know that you have a goal and you are searching to obtain that goal by seeking out a solution. When we question our selves, we are performing a therapeutic technique that helps us to find answers to unanswered questions. For example, if you are getting married in July and it is January, you may want to ask yourself is your time frame suitable? Does the time frame work with your schedule? Am I ready for this? Do I have the ability to manage a marriage? If you see where I am going, it is obvious. Many people commit to marriage, but often neglect elements of time management, that are essential for making the marriage work. Time and money is invested in this arrangement and often wasted, since the marriage leads to divorce. Likewise, if we are starting a new business, we have to ask questions. Questions are the root of establishing a time management scheme that leads to success. Don’t let pride get in the way of obtaining your goals. Pride is a root of evil and it does not bring forth good results when utilized inappropriately. Maintaining pride brings us to ‘keeping it simple,’ which is another basic rule in time management.

Keeping it simple is smartest element in time management since it works to benefit our mind, body, and responsibilities. Simple does not mean to be simple minded, neglecting your responsibilities. Rather, simple means to put a plan in motion that works smoothly and effectively, while reaching for your goals. One example of a simple plan, is when problems arise it is often because someone made a mistake, unless nature is in the picture. If we are making plans to obtain goals, then we want to analyze carefully which strategies work best to reach that goal. We want a plan that is logical and simple; so that it informs us which steps to take next to reach our level of success intended, without feeling doubts or running into complications constantly along the way. No plan is flawless, so keep in mind when you are creating a plan for time management “role playing” can often decrease risks in plans. This means when you come up with an idea for your planning scheme, you would ask questions, play out the part, and focus on the results. If good results come from the actions or decisions, you know then that the plan will run smoothly. Life is too short to waste time, and time is wasting money, so learn the basics in time management so you can reach your goals. Time manages everything. No matter what we do in life, it all revolves around time. We can spend time wisely and get results from our efforts, or we can waste time and sit back wondering what happen to our lives?
