Why Is It Important To Be Aware Of The Connection Between Time And Stress Management?

Stress is often caused by the mind living in the wrong time frame.
For example, our mind sometimes reverts back to the “Boy Scout Mentality” which is “always be prepared”. This mindset is often characterized by circular thought patterns, thoughts that generate more like thoughts with no end. When in the Boy Scout mindset you will find yourself having fictitious conversations with your friends or those you are trying to impress in order to try to be prepared for conversations that may never come along. Another example is that you might worry about someone visiting your home and opening up your silverware drawer and making a judgment about you because of its disarray. In order to prepare for this you invest time in individually wiping and organizing your silverware.
Often this mindset generates a lot of waisted energy because no matter how prepared you are for something, you can never know what the outcome will truly be until it occurs.
Perhaps you spend most of your time in the “Back to the Future Mindset” where you wish you could have done something differently like ask out a girl before your friend did. Maybe you relive the moment where you could have caught the ball in the big homecoming game. This mindset is often filled with regret and disappointment. “If only I had done…”
Our focus is much better utilized in the “Present Moment”. Now is the time you have the greatest influence on. By focusing our attention on the present moment we become more grounded and better prepared to handle what comes our way. You become more in tune with your tension level and as a result more able to affect your body’s reaction to any given situation.
Our time is now! Stay focused on the present moment and enjoy what life has to offer as it comes your way.
