Heather is a sixty-year-old woman who is the director of the human resources department at a large brass plating company. To cut the costs associated with excessive sick days, work related injuries, increasing absenteeism, poor employee work performance, and employee alcohol abuse and alcoholism, Heather and the other members of upper management established several programs that made the work atmosphere substantially more productive, healthy, and safe.

As an illustration, fourteen years ago Heather and the other VIPs instituted an Employee’s Assistance Program so that all the workers had access to first-rate therapy for their personal problems that could negatively influence their work performance, health, and their personal well being.

Top Management Builds a Forward-Looking Workout and Exercise Room Complete With Weights, Exercise Equipment, Scales, Exercise Charts, a Personal Trainer During Business Hours, and Mirrors

As another example, just about seven years ago Heather and the other company executives assembled a modern exercise and workout room complete with exercise charts, scales, many different types of exercise equipment, weights, a personal trainer during business hours, and mirrors.

Moreover, about five years ago Heather and the other members of upper management invested in a purification system that filters all the drinking water that is obtainable all through the building. Similarly, a year-and-a-half ago, Heather and the other members of top management started a “walking club” that is principally intended for employees who want to work on their cardiovascular system.

The Company Leaders Initiate a Weight-Watchers Class and Hire a Weight-Loss Professional to Manage the Program

As another illustration, roughly a year-and-a-half ago, Heather and the other members of top management established a “Weight-Watchers” class that presently meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:30 PM until 5:50 PM. Moreover, upper management employed a weight-loss healthcare professional to run the program.

In the same way, a year-and-a-half ago Heather and the other company administrators implemented a “Stop Smoking Club” for workers who want to refrain from smoking.

In the last twelve months, in combination with the Employee’s Assistance Program, Heather and the other members of upper management established an “Anger Management” class for workers who want to learn how to better control their anger issues.

Upper Management Establishes An Alcohol and Drug Testing Program

In the last three months, Heather and the other members of top management implemented a drug and alcohol testing program that is linked with their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. In truth, Heather is the key individual in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the employees about the drug and alcohol testing program as well as the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program.

One of the essential elements of the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcoholism and Depression” that meets every Wednesday after work. The fundamental idea with this class is informing employees that abusive drinking and depression regularly occur in the same person. It is hoped that knowing this information can help a person address both medical issues and get the alcohol rehab and mental health counseling he or she needs.

The VIPs Launch an Alcohol Statistics and Facts Class

Another fairly recent enhancement to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcohol Statistics and Facts.” The rationale behind this alcohol statistics facts class is the reality that several individuals are unsuccessful in their attempt to comprehend the total impact of the results of alcoholism and alcohol abuse without first reading about some of the alcoholism and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that are available. As a consequence, one of the goals of this class is to provide a variety of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse facts and statistics in order to help workers gain a better understanding of the many of problems that are related to excessive and hazardous drinking and how they can prevent these issues from occurring.

Most recently, Heather and the other members of top management, by way of observations from workers, developed a class that focuses directly on acute drinking entitled “What is Alcoholism”? This class meets every Wednesday morning an hour-and-a-half before work and focuses principally on the differences between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, on the stages of alcoholism, and on the forms of rehabilitation that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as people who drink in an irresponsible manner.

The Goal: Help all Workers Come to Their Jobs With a More Positive Attitude

Even though every single one of these preventative maintenance and health programs was quite costly, upper management thinks that they are many thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their employees with a safe, healthy, and more productive work environment that hopefully helps all workers want to come to their jobs with a more positive attitude.

Teresa was a forty-three-year-old floral designer who realized that she had a drinking problem. As an illustration, within the past three months she has felt the need to have more than a few drinks before going to work, six weeks ago she tested positive for a blood alcohol test where she is employed, three weeks ago she got pulled over by the police for a DWI, and finally, for the past three months she has begun to forget what she says and does when she goes out drinking with her buddies.

Like many other individuals, Teresa’s alcohol involvement started out slowly and stayed at this level for quite a long period of time because every now and then she engaged in casual social drinking. As a matter of fact, for nearly two years, every time she went out to drink, she made sure to drink in a responsible manner. Something about her drinking behavior, nevertheless, seemed to fundamentally change when she got divorced from her husband.

So She Can Overcome the Loss of Her Husband In a Less Troublesome Manner, Teresa Made Up Her Mind That She Will Begin Palling Around More Frequently With Some of Her Pals Who Love to Have Fun and Drink

Teresa got very despondent about the divorce from her husband, and as a way to quit fixating on her discouraging emotions she made up her mind to start associating more routinely with some of her buddies who love to ”get down” and drink.

Quite forthrightly, Teresa concluded that having fun nearly every day by drinking and partying with her buddies would help her get beyond the divorce of her husband in a less wearisome manner.

Teresa’s Drinking Escalates Substantially the More Frequently She Goes to Family Get-Togethers, Dinner Dates, Sporting Events, Happy Hours, and Private Parties With Her Pals

It didn’t take very long, however, before her drinking increased to a significant extent the more frequently she went to and drank at dinner dates, sporting events, happy hours, private parties, and family get-togethers with her buddies. What is more, the fact that her drinking pals were all much younger than she was and therefore able to party and drink more recklessly was one of the reasons that she didn’t allocate more of her attention to her increased drinking. Simply put, she was drinking and having tons of fun just like everyone else in her group of pals without too much deliberation regarding the consequences of her hazardous and excessive drinking.

Yet somewhere in her brain she knew that she most probably required alcohol rehab but kept away from the thought as much as she could.

Teresa Gets a Physical, Discloses the Facts About Her Hazardous and Abusive Drinking to Her Healthcare Professional, and Owns Up to the Truth About Her Depression

One late afternoon during her twelve month physical examination, her healthcare practitioner asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell “stories” to her healthcare professional, Teresa acknowledged that she commonly drinks more than she should. In reality, she said that she frequently drinks in a hazardous and abusive manner. Then Teresa told her doctor about her constant negativity. More specifically, she articulated that ruined relationships usually started a disheartening progression of events characterized by increased drinking which further led to more disheartening feelings that, in turn, led to more drinking. And this is precisely what took place when she and her husband got divorced two years ago.

When her healthcare practitioner heard this, he told Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was investigating, alcoholism and depression frequently arise in the same person. He then informed Teresa that some of the alcohol statistics, facts, and research investigations he has been reading about also underline the fact that individuals who drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner and who also experience depression need to receive treatment for both medical conditions.

Teresa’s Healthcare Practitioner Schedules an Appointment for a Psychological Evaluation and For an Alcohol Dependency and Alcohol Abuse Evaluation

Teresa’s doctor then stated the following: “I am not trying to make a snap diagnosis, but with your medical circumstances we may be dealing with two separate matters. As a consequence, I think we ought to schedule an appointment for you to get an alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse evaluation from my partner, Dr. Truxton, who is a substance abuse and alcohol abuse specialist. Whether your drinking situation is more associated with alcohol abuse or alcoholism is not clear, but I think that further assessment is needed. Then I believe we should make an appointment for you to get a psychological exam from another one of my partners, Dr. Jordan, who is a counseling psychologist. I want to get some more insights about your dejection and see how much your depression and drinking are interrelated.”

Teresa Gets Enthused About Finally Addressing Her Excessive Drinking and Her Depression

Teresa displayed her satisfaction with her healthcare practitioner’s line of attack and thanked him for his assistance and concern. In all honesty, Teresa now experienced a sense of personal satisfaction because she finally made up her mind to do something positive about her abusive drinking and her depression. Now all she had to do was to try to cut back on her drinking and wait for her appointments.

Sarah and Jerry have been married for five years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they decided to have some kids and so they intentionally developed an incredibly exciting social life.

The principal issue, however, is that nearly everything they do socially is associated with drinking. For example, all of the happy hours, dinner engagements, sporting events, parties with friends, and family get-togethers they attend have something to do with drinking.

Jerry and Sarah Start to See Some Noticeable Alcohol Related Issues That are Associated With Their Abusive Drinking

If they were occasional drinkers, this wouldn’t be such a difficult situation. Because they drink in an excessive manner, nevertheless, they are starting to see some unmistakable alcohol-related issues in their lives.

For instance, just four days ago Jerry received a third DWI and has been showing up late for work due to alcohol-related health issues. Furthermore, Jerry’s last two or three performance appraisals at his place of employment have been less than acceptable and he has begun to fail to remember what he says or does while he drinks. As a final point, Jerry has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to get apprehensive about his drinking difficulties.

Similar to Jerry’s situation, Sarah has been feeling unhappy about life in general and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more than any time in the past eleven months. Moreover, Sarah has been getting more than a few headaches and suffering from excruciating hangovers from drinking. Finally, Sarah has been feeling appreciably less active when she awakens, she has been getting to work late almost every Monday, and she has been getting some harsh criticism from her relatives, friends, family members, and coworkers about her irresponsible drinking.

Watching the Television and Flipping the Channels and Finding An Out-of-the-Ordinary Program About the Signs of Alcohol Dependency

One Sunday evening while watching the television, Jerry and Sarah went through the channels and found an attention-grabbing documentary about the signs of alcoholism.

This TV program was a real jolt to Sarah and Jerry because many of the alcoholism signs that were discussed appeared as if they were indisputably linked to numerous alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been experiencing.

A Candid Chat About Drinking Behavior Exposes Alcohol Related Relationship, Health, Employment, Legal, and Financial Problems

After watching the television documentary, Sarah and Jerry made up their minds to have an open conversation about their drinking circumstances. They both were in agreement that most, if not all, of their social activities somehow involved drinking, that they were drinking in an abusive manner, and that as a married couple, they were beginning to see alcohol related employment, health, financial, legal, and relationship problems for the first time in their lives.

With thoughts of the television special still running through her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcoholism signs they have been displaying could be a signal that they are alcoholic or maybe becoming addicted to alcohol. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the physicians at the nearby alcohol abuse treatment clinic to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking difficulties.

Attending To Your Drinking Difficulties Just May Lessen Your Trepidation and Give You A Degree of Peacefulness

Ironically, although their drinking situation hadn’t yet changed, it was clear that Jerry and Sarah were at least dealing with their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were concerned about how they could significantly reduce or get rid of the alcohol-related difficulties that had started to deteriorate.

When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that night, they made up their minds that the next morning, Jerry would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol rehabilitation center located downtown. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to surmount the alcohol-related difficulties that had manifested themselves in their lives, they actually had the most revitalizing night’s sleep they could recall in the last eight weeks.

Just before he fell asleep, Jerry turned to Sarah and observed how painless it is to lessen one’s apprehension and actually experience some serenity by addressing one’s problems with conviction and deciding to do something affirmative about them.

Around seven weeks ago I read about a twenty-five-year-old lady named Rachael who is bipolar and who is also drug and alcohol dependent. I remember hearing that under such circumstances, an individual needs to get treatment for both medical problems and that mental health issues and addiction many times take place in the same individual. Furthermore, I recall reading that a history of negative drinking, drug abuse, and/or mental health issues quite often happen in the same family.

Evidently, Rachael is so crushed by both of her medical conditions that she, for all intents and purposes, has little or no drive to do much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in her life, Rachael managed to finish three-and-a-half-years of college. Rachael’s condition makes me question if she is an illustration of an individual who has to hit life’s bottom before he or she gets drug and alcohol addiction counseling that leads to long-term recovery.

The Need For a Psychologist She Trusts and a Rehab Regimen She Can Believe In

If I were in contact with Rachael I could recommend numerous blogs and websites that could possibly help her find information about addiction and alcoholic behavior, relevant chemical dependency information, facts about alcoholism and drugs, and more info about addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. In my opinion, however, Rachael needs to locate a healthcare professional she trusts and a treatment protocol she can believe in and follow through over the long haul. I could be wrong but it seems logical to conclude that Rachael probably needs to admit the fact that she cannot drink in moderation or abuse drugs if she wants to get sober, stay sober, and start on the route to lasting sobriety.

I am mindful that there are some newly produced doctor-prescribed meds that can help Rachael avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse, help her through the drug and alcohol detox process, and help her through her withdrawal symptoms. Clearly it would be in Rachael’s best interests if she knew about these medications.

It is apparent that Rachael needs to admit the fact that there is absolutely nothing useful about hazardous and excessive drinking and drug abuse and that engaging in one or both circumstances is the path to legal problems, poor work and school performance, shattered relationships, financial difficulties, deteriorating health, and possibly a premature death.

The Relevance of Support Groups Like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous

There are possibly several persons such as family members, other people, and friends who would like to help Rachael but she more likely than not would experience greater sympathy from a recovery group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous instead of listening to people who drink in moderation or who have never taken drugs.

When Individuals Do Things They Love and About Which They Are Fervent

There’s a school of thought in life that contends that individuals who do things they love and something about which they are passionate arrive at a splendid place in life. That is, when people do what they love, they rarely if ever experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is fulfilling, moreover, they become more complete and experience more contentment and delight in life.

To me, this sounds quite a bit different from a life that is rooted in drug and alcohol addiction because such a lifestyle removes the gratification and delight that life offers.

Due to the fact that Rachael lacks the motivation to achieve much of anything in her life, it is clear that she definitely needs some hope for a better existence. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is almost everywhere around Rachael if she could only get to the place in life to get the therapy she requires for her manic depression and drug addiction and alcoholism and continue with her treatment program.

A Wonderful Life, Self Respect, and Beneficial Change Are Possibilities

Rachael is simply too young to be defeated in life. She doesn’t realize this right now but if she can learn how to remove herself from alcohol and drugs via alcohol and drug rehabilitation and get the counseling she requires for her bipolar condition, she can reorient her life and start living with passion, self-respect, and direction.

A meaningful life, self esteem, and positive change are certainly possibilities for Rachael if only she could get motivated to seek the medical treatment she requires, follow through with her therapy protocol, live her life in a dependency-free and healthy way, and foster a more positive attitude about her existence.

Daniel had been engaging in abusive drinking behavior since her junior year in college. Now, nine years later, she drank more than ever. One Wednesday evening when she was feeling queasy, Daniel decided to stay home, chill out, and watch television.

While hunting for something to watch that would grab hold of her attention, she instantaneously became captivated with a program about young adult and teenage drinking stumbling blocks.

When Familiar Alcoholism Symptoms and Signs are Revealed by Alcohol Dependent Individuals

The commenter talked about the difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism and then discussed the topic of alcohol dependency symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the spokesperson discussed a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more common alcoholic symptoms and signs that alcohol addicted people exhibit, Daniel got quite disturbed because it almost seemed as if the commenter was talking specifically to her.

After watching the TV program, Daniel made a promise to herself that she would call her physician the following morning and make an appointment to discuss her drinking situation.

When the following morning arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her physician and made an appointment. While she was waiting for the day of her appointment to arrive, she went on the web and did a search for alcoholic symptoms. Especially noteworthy were the following symptoms or signs: sleep problems, substantial relationship and work-related problems, making excuses to drink at virtually every opportunity, sneaking extra drinks before social events, and increasing irritability.

Simply put, due to the fact that Daniel manifested all of these signs she went further in her Internet search and found quite a lot of websites and blogs that highlighted different alcohol dependency warning signs and symptoms.

One of the symptoms that really caught her awareness was the following: “Do you usually drink after promising yourself that you won’t?” While Daniel never totally comprehended the fact that she may have a severe drinking difficulty, after reading about the various alcohol addiction symptoms and warning signs, she couldn’t refute the fact that for the past three or four months, she constantly tried but failed at significantly diminishing her drinking or totally quitting.

When Friends and People at Your Place of Employment Pester You by Objecting to Your Hazardous Drinking Behavior

Another alcoholism sign that took hold of her awareness was the following: “Have people at work hassled you by frowning upon your drinking behavior?” When Daniel read this she instantaneously called to mind a recent quarrel she had with her aunt about her irresponsible drinking. In addition, Daniel without a doubt called to mind a recent quarrel she had with her parents about her irresponsible drinking behavior. Since Daniel frankly believed that she didn’t have a drinking issue, when relatives brought up her drinking behavior she logically got aggravated and irritated.

A third alcohol addiction warning sign was the following: “Do you want a drink when you first awaken in the morning?” Until now, Daniel had been lying to herself about her drinking situation. After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning symptoms, nonetheless, she knew if she was really forthright with herself that she was facing a critical drinking issue, especially given the fact that she now felt that she required a drink the first thing in the morning to cut down on her constant worry.

What is more, the next alcoholism symptom really got her thinking about her drinking situation: “Do you drink to keep away from suffering or pain?” When she reflected on her life for a few minutes, she grasped the fact that just about in every stressful circumstance in the past few months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help manage things.

The final alcohol addiction symptom that made her feel rather on edge about her drinking condition was the following: “Has your motivation dropped off since you started drinking more frequently?” When Daniel read this sign she openly recognized that drinking had become a critical issue in her life because of her lack of energy and also because she quit pursuing her dreams and her passions.

Conclusion: When Getting Morose Turns Into Something Wonderful and A Sense of Hope

After pondering the significance of all of these negative alcohol dependency signs and symptoms, Daniel at first felt crestfallen. Then something amazing occurred. She realized that she was going to see her physician about her drinking problems and she also realized that she would discuss all of the above alcohol addiction warning signs and symptoms with her. To be sure, for the first time in a number of months, Daniel honestly felt a sense of hopefulness and a positive change in her attitude because she was dealing with her drinking issues and was after all has been said and done ready to make the required adjustments so that she could restore the life that was sliding away.
